About
up to Ch.2Joe is one of the huskies on Buck's sled team in The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Brought onto the team alongside his brother Billee, Joe is the very opposite of his good-natured sibling: sour and introspective, with a perpetual snarl, a malignant eye, and the look of belligerent fear. When the leader Spitz tries to thrash him, Joe whirls to face him, jaws snapping, until Spitz is forced to leave him alone.
Joe works in the traces among Buck, Billee, and Spitz on the hard Klondike runs. His snarling temper makes him a difficult team-mate, but it also makes him one of the few dogs unwilling to be cowed by the team's leader.
